At this point in the year it’s likely that you’ve worked your way through your spring cleaning list. The pool has been readied for summer, you’ve stocked up on propane for the grill and you’re well into planning this year’s family vacation.

We understand you’re probably busy figuring out all of the fun stuff, but we here at Jam Roofing wanted to take a moment to remind you that you should also add summertime roof inspection to your list.

We know, inspecting your roof isn’t as much fun as that camping trip that you’re planning, but it’s something you’ll want to do at least once, if not twice a year.

Below are just a few reasons you’ll want to get this handled sooner than later.

Critters are cute—as long as they’re not living in your roof’s overhang

Yes, baby squirrels and baby birds are adorable, but when mamma squirrel or mamma bird decides to make a nest in one of your roof’s overhangs, these unwanted tenants could wind up doing a lot of harm to your roofing system.

That harm can be expensive to repair.

If you’ve noticed that critters have started to set up camp, it’s best to evict them as quickly as possible.

You’ll be able to keep up with necessary repairs

When you’re inspecting your roof, you’ll want to take a close look at your shingles and your flashing. If you notice that some of your shingles are loose, or that one or more of them has started to curl, it’s best to contact a local roofing company as quickly as possible to schedule a repair.

If your flashing looks damage or rusted, you’ll want to proceed with the same course of action. Remember, ignoring these types of problems will not make them go away.

When these types of issues aren’t addressed promptly, they tend to become more of a problem as time goes on.

Gutter love

If you live in a wooded area, or if you have several trees on your property that are in close proximity to your home, you’ll want to make sure to clean your gutters at least once (but preferably twice) per year.

If you’ve noticed that you have quite a bit of debris in your gutters, you may also want to consider trimming back the branches of those trees.

Once your gutters are clean, be sure to inspect them for rust, holes and/or cracks. If you discover your gutters need some repairing, you’ll want to contact an expert gutter repair company right away.
